Curtain Setup in Corner Windows

Corner windows are incredibly stylish and decorative. A great way to create a cosy corner is to frame it with your curtains. You can either place a curtain on each side of the window or let the curtain run seamlessly through the corner.

If your main goal is to frame the window, you can use straight curtain rails that meet at the corner without needing to join them together. This type of setup works well when the curtains are mostly open and hang on either side of the window, but still allow you to close the curtains when needed.

However, if you want the curtains to also cover the corner itself, it’s a good idea to opt for a curtain rail that allows the curtains to run all the way through the corner. This type of setup can feel more aesthetically pleasing, giving a unified look, especially if you’re going for double hotel curtains or sheer curtains that are usually fully drawn. It’s also the best option for blackout curtains, as you avoid the gap that can occur between separate curtains. We’ll go through this type of setup in more detail below.

Corner Bend or Reverse Bend?

For many of our curtain rails, you can purchase ready-made bends with a 90° or 135° angle, making it easy to dress even more complex window areas with curtains. Corner bends are used to allow the curtain to run all the way through a corner. Reverse bends, on the other hand, are used in the opposite direction, allowing the curtain to fold back towards the wall. These are useful if you have a window ledge that protrudes significantly, requiring you to mount your curtain rail a bit further from the wall. To avoid a large gap between the curtain and the wall, which can be especially noticeable when viewing the setup from the side, you can use a reverse bend to cover the space between the curtain and the wall with more curtain fabric.

If you have bay windows and want curtains both inside and outside the bay, it may be necessary to use both corner bends and reverse bends to create a continuous curtain rail.

Double Curtains in Corner Windows

You can also hang double curtains in a corner window to create that luxurious hotel feel! The hotel rail with two tracks cannot be joined with a corner bend, but you can opt for a double setup of single-track rails and add corner bends. If you want your curtains to hang in flowing waves, there should be about 10 cm between the rails to allow enough space for the waves. If you prefer smaller, tighter pleats, a smaller distance between the rails will work. You can read more here about how to hang your curtains using different types of hooks.

Tip!

If you’re purchasing bends for your curtain rail, make sure to also get joins to attach the bends to the rail. Additionally, remember to place ceiling brackets right at the joints, as the rail is weakest at these points.
